The grand opening of the exhibition "Culture and Art — the Light of Magtymguly Fragi's Soul" took place on 18 June at the Exhibition Centre of Fine Arts of Turkmenistan. The exposition, timed to coincide with the Day of Culture and Art Workers of Turkmenistan and the Day of Poetry of Magtymguly Fragi, brought together works of painting, decorative and applied arts, ceramics, and jewellery craftsmanship, showcasing the diversity of creative approaches employed by contemporary Turkmen artists in interpreting the legacy of the great poet and thinker.
As part of the event, Chairman of the Union of Artists of Turkmenistan Charymyrat Yazmyradov presented awards to 62 artists. Following an expert assessment, works by participants who had made a significant contribution to the development of the national fine arts were recognised. A total of 129 artists took part in the exhibition.
Among the works on display, a triptych by artist Rahman Umarov drew considerable attention from visitors, with a portrait of Magtymguly placed at its centre. The artist depicted the poet as a mature man with a deep and focused gaze, while the predominance of red hues imparted a special emotional expressiveness to the composition.
Artist Guncha Muradova presented Magtymguly in the image of a young man standing on the threshold of spiritual discovery. Her work accentuates the poet's inner world and his yearning for knowledge.
Two works titled "Magtymguly" were presented by artist Meylis Atayev. Executed in a soft colour palette, the canvases refer to the poet's youthful years and are inspired by the theme of his love for Mengli.
The theme of the native land was reflected in the painting "In the Homeland of Magtymguly" by Muhammed Rejepgeldyyev. The eagle rising above the Karakala mountain gorge became the central image of the work, symbolising strength of spirit, the memory of generations, and the poet's bond with his native land.
Alongside the paintings, visitors were able to view collections of traditional Turkmen jewellery presented by jewellers Aijemal Chariyeva, Govher Nurymova, Akgul Annasaparova, Allayar Batyrov, as well as Artyom Balyan. His works featured gold and diamond jewellery, along with a complex artistic composition executed using a variety of materials.
Of particular interest were the ceramic compositions from the "Village Life" series by Dilber Umarova. The artist's works, depicting scenes of everyday life in a Turkmen village, filled the exhibition with an atmosphere of warmth, goodwill, and national colour.
The exhibition "Culture and Art — the Light of Magtymguly Fragi's Soul" became a vivid confirmation that this light continues to live on and inspire. It revealed the immense creative potential of contemporary Turkmen artists and once again underscored the inextricable link between the spiritual legacy of the great poet and the national culture.
